UNESCO book: River Restoration

This book is the result of a collaborative effort between the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the General Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Planning and Design, Ministry of Water Resources, People's Republic of China (GWIP). GWIP has been tasked with coordinating a major programme of work to improve the condition of small and medium sized river basins in China. Many of these rivers become severely impacted as a result of pollution, over abstraction of water, dredging and other works within the channel and adjoining floodplain. This book was originally conceived to provide support to the planning and mangement of China's river restoration programme by reviewing approaches to river restoration and identifying frameworks and methods suitable to the Chinese situation. The content, however, considered to be universally applicable.

Proceedings of the International Conference on River and Stream Restoration "Novel Approaches to Assess and Rehabilitate Modified Rivers".

The proceedings contain the extended summaries of nearly all keynotes and oral presentations. They are preceeded by a description of the scope of the conference, feedback from the advisory and visual impression of the conference.

The Handbook for Management and Restoration of Aquatic Ecosystems in River and Lake Basin

GWP and INBO launched at the World Water Forum in Korea this handbook that draws from real-life experiences, practical examples and expertise acquired in national and transboundary basins throughout the world. It is organized by the theme and centred on the key issueslinked to managing and restoraing aquatic ecosystems. The work includes contributions from several authors who represent different approaches in this complex domain, including experts on IWRM and the environment.

SEE River Toolkit for facilitating cross sectoral management of river corridors

The SEE River Project sucessfully developed the SEE River Toolkit, a generally applicable model and guidance how to reach common agreement on river management for the harmonisation of both - development and conservation interests. It is an innovative tool, based on local and international experience that outlines a new direction and represents a good basis for the future sustainable use of river corridors.
