Connecting people and organizations
The overall objective of the ECRR is to support the development and implementation of concepts on ecological river restoration into integrated and sustainable river basin management initiatives in the European framework. They do this by providing a platform for information exchange between people and organisations.
Strategic activities of the ECRR include:
- To provide access to information on research, planning, implementation and monitoring activities and techniques in the field of river restoration by means of a website and publication of a newsletter. At present the ECRR publishes about 5 newsletters per year.
- To facilitate contacts between its members as being practitioners of the network. This is done by means of a web-based matching service, to encourage the exchange of information and experiences on river restoration, and to promote the development of new visions and ideas. There are at the moment more than 300 ECRR members making use of the network.
- To promote and facilitate the establishment and functioning of National Networks/National Centers on river restoration throughout Europe, being partner organizations with the ECRR. At the moment there are in Europe 9 National Centers on river restoration.
- To organize conferences, workshops, seminars and other working meetings to actively promote the development of the learning community. Since its start the ECRR organized 4 international conferences, 5 seminars and about 25 working meetings and study tours.
