Case study River Quaggy makes a comeback

Case study River Quaggy makes a comeback

Running from Bromley to Lewisham, the Quaggy River has suffered considerable flooding problems over the years - caused primarily by development on the natural floodplain. This case study focuses on the deculverting of the river back to its natural state.

The project was undertaken by the Environment Agency (UK), Halcrow and Alfred McAlpine. The project restored the river to its natural state, created green space for the local community, new natural habitats and reduced the risk of flooding. Visits to the park have increased by 73%.
