The former INTERREG IIIB project SAND “Spatial quality enhancement,
Alleviation of flood damage and Nature enlargement by Development and re-development of mineral
extraction along rivers” of the NW Europe region finished on December 31st, 2008.
The project, a co-operation of Dutch, French and German authorities, carried out five pilots
projects along various rivers such as the Meuse, the River Waal (Rhine branch), the River Seine,
the Oise and Aisne rivers and the River Erft. During the project between 2003 and 2008, many products
