EC draft 'Regulation on nature restoration' proposal

The EC published in June a draft nature restoration law and the ECRR is excited to see that freshwater ecosystems, in particular the restoration of 25.000 km of free flowing rivers before 2030, are included. The ECRR shared their feedback and keypoints they would like to see addressed:

• practical metrics for free-flowing rivers, prioritisation tools and guidance for barrier removal;
• an action plan to prioritise removal of obselete or insignificant dams;
• funding for barier removal as part of the EU Water Framework Directive;
• status reports on the progress and benefits of dam and barrier removal.
