Guided site visits on alluvial habitat restoration, river dynamics and sediment‑driven channel recovery

Across the sites, the tour focuses on restoration measures that re‑open river processes and habitat diversity, including work in former gravel‑extraction areas and interventions that address the legacy of bank protection and channel constraint. The learning emphasis is on understanding why particular measures were chosen and how they perform in practice: how river form and erosion are managed when hard bank protection is removed, how incision affects channel condition and habitat units, and how sediment replenishment and related monitoring help sustain restored channels and oxbows over time. Just as importantly, the programme places these technical themes in their real‑world context, exploring how land tenure, access and recreation, ecosystem services, and social acceptance shape what is feasible and how restoration outcomes are maintained.
