LIFE DORDOGNE INTERNATIONAL STUDY TOUR
Two days of technical site vists discussing alluvial habitat restoration, river dynamics and sediment-driven channel recovery. Learn about the work of this €8M EU LIFE Project , excghange ideas and concepts from other countries, take away new knowl;edge for your work.
A technical demonstration of project sites
The tout focuses on restoration measures that re-open processes and habitat diversity, including:
- work in former gravel-extraction areas
- interventions that address the legacy of bank protection and cahannel constraint
The learning emphasises is on understanding why particular measures were chosen and how they perform in practice:
- how river form and erosian are manged when hard bank protection is removed
- how incision affects channel condition and habiat units
- how sediment replenishment and related minitoring help sustain restored channels and ox-bows over time
Just as importantly, the programme places these technical themes in their real‑world context, exploring how land tenure, access and recreation, ecosystem services, and social acceptance shape what is feasible and how restoration outcomes are maintained.
The final programme wil become available by mid-May, register here for receiving theprgramme by then.

The LIFE project initiated by EPIDOR, the public territorial establishment for the Dordogne river basin, is implementing an action program on an unprecedented scale to restore the natural aquatic and alluvial habitats of the Dordogne river. This experience is feeding into a national debate led by the OFB on hydro-morphological river management strategies.

Case study references Dordogne River Restoration
ECRR and CIREF formed a work teamled by the University of of the Baque Country, with participation from the University of Zaragoza and the University of Santiago de Compostela. The team's apprach was to collect case studies with similar problems and challenges to those of the Dordogne. One of the main characteristics of the studies rivers was that the had similar hydro-morphologica; conditions to the Dordogne and interesting sediment mangement experiences that could be replicable.
Out of a long list of 98 projects across Europe, focusing on case studies, 8 were chosen to make summary sheets from that could be used for making and implementing plans for the restoration of the Dordogne river. These sheet are added below.
1. Summary Aragon 2. Summary Danube 3. Summary Dee 4. Summary Drava
5. Summary Isar 6. Summary Meuse 7. Summary Orbigo 8. Summary Sweden
Workshop presentations. Furthermore a workshop was held to discuss these references together with the managers from these rivers fir fure projects and menagement of the river. Two presentations of this workshop are presented here:
